ua : so they told you to go and take kyiv. and?

ru : the troops were fucking shocked

ru : what a change of plan!

ru : people turned grey. especially considering that we took fire as we were in the sky

ua : this was then you flew in ukrainian sky?

ru : yes, somewhere near the dnicper

ru : we approached the airfield - there were visible damages in the area looked like the results of artillery strikes so we landed, started to deplane

you could tell that pilots were already scared becaus the landing was very rough - i thought we would drop

so we rolled out plane, and confusion started:

where were we? what to do next? where to go? - nobody new

ua : did your commander give you any briefing? actions on?

ru : we acted according to our tactic: after getting off the helicopter we formed a horse-shoe

then we pushed forward

we knew that we needed to get out of the airfield as soon as possible, because we saw some smoke in places

that was a sign for us that there is combat, and we knew we were no more on a friendly territory - in belarus or russia

so we needed to get out of te airfield as soon as possible

and the commander gave a command, and we took positions - there was a sort of landfill or something

and we started to dig trenches near the runway

ua : ok.

as we were digging trenches, ukrainian aviation started to shoot us from jets

at first, a helicopter came and started to shoot on us

then jets came and started to shoot on us

and by that time we knew that it was..

ua : what were your actions? you are taking fire and continue digging?

ru : yes, just dig quicker

ua : i am not a military man, i am just curious : how digging in can help against aviation strikes?

ru : don't know. but this is the way to act according to textbooks

you came, you must dig in, make positions

the commander told us we had to hold those postions

ua : wouldn't it make more sense to try to push through to the airport?

ru : but there was more than one company that landed, and we took all-round-defense in that airport

ua : so you came as part of a larger group. how many helicopters?

ru : i don't know the exact number

ua : but roughly, under or over 20?

ru : i think we had over 40 helicopters

ua : ok, and how many toroops in each?

ru : 16-17 troops

ua : so, over 40 helicopters, 16-17 people in each, landed in kyiv airfield

some troops started to dig in, some started to take groung, right?

ru : yes, each unit tried to take its own ground

so, our positions were near the runway. we dug trenches and remained there for 3 days

we lived there, slept there, and didn't go anywhere

we took artillery fire, but we didn't change the postions

so our neighboring units sustained losses on the first day

losses from artillery fire, there were some battles, but at a distance from us .. this is how it was

ua : and what next?

ru : so we stayed there for 3 days.

on the first day of our landing, our commander told us that our equipment should come by land

the equipment did not come on the first day

there were rumours that airborne troops were expected to jump from a plane

but maybe it was not true

but nobody came. after 3 days, there were still only us

the equipment came only on the 3rd day

ua :the equipment came on the 3rd day?

ru : yes, it arrived by noon

even in the afternoon

ua : where did it com from?

ru : from pripiat [chornobyl-belaus-north direction]

the equipment came and it was pulled closer to the airfield

and then one company took artillery fire

there were killed from a company on btr-mdm - by an artillery strike

ua : do you realize why it happens and we wait until you bunch up in one place?

ru : i will tell you in a few minutes

all mechanics got in one [vehicle] , the crew got scattered, they were told to hide equipment, they hid

in hangers or somewhere - i didn't see

they came to us in the evening and started to perpare their positions - to dig trenches

because nobody said what to do next

then at 4 in the morning we received an order to fule the equipment

for some reason thay took us all, infantry, from our polsitions, and took us to the airfield for fueling

there was a single area where everybody was coming to, they would come, park equipment

but as i was observing it for the third day, i realized something was not right

there was no fire from your forces - which was strange for that time

there were a lof of people and equipment near mriya

there were people from russian guard unit and other units

and wa all were there

and it was around 9 am

we were just standing there for about 2 hours, not fueling

i came to a tank and took my submachine gun

and as i was coming back to where mriya was - an artillery strike came in

it hit the hangar and one of shells laned 50 meters from me

three more shells hit tanks we hid under a tractor, which was near mriya

a mate near me said "i know a good cover" and we ran

as we ran, heavy artillery fire came on the area where we had been

it continued for about two hours - nobody could move

those who were standing out of over - about 60 people - were killed

could only be scarped off the asphalt , so to speak

when we came out of cover, we saw that all equipment of our company was completely destroyed

nothing was left - not even a turret. just pieces of foam rubber

along with machinery, personal weapons was also destroyed

one of our mechanic-drivers got lost after an artillery strike - we could not find him for 2 days

then we found him, but he lost his marbles - became a schizophrenic

ua : lost his marbles?

ru : uhum

ua : and what happened to him?

ru : his weapon was taken, he was scheduled to evacuation

ua : what was hif function?

ru : he was a mechanic-driver

he was scheduled for evacuation, bue he was not evacuated

and for us, after our equipment was destroyed, we were taken off our posititons

and transferred to the airfield

and we lived in the airfield for 3-4 days

ua : was it march already?

ru : no, not yet

and then an order came to mount and to move on to objective

nobody told us what objective and waht our task was

we got equipment from another battalion because they sustained many casualties and could not move

ua : by that time, did you already have a desire to run away?

did you start asking questions "what are we doing here?"

ru : i asked a commander this question : " what is the purpose ofr us to be here?"

he said something to the extend that "you don't need to know"

like it's not my business

ua : got that. but as i understand, you came here to liberate from nazis or nationalists?

only when i became a prisoner, i was shown motivational leaflets of officers calling to destroy neo-nazis

ua : really? they had them?

ru : yes, i was shown such leafiets of our killed officer

we loaded casualties on a bmd

we loaded casualties, sat in the vehicle, it was late evening

we pulled out, the drive picked the speed,

and we crashed in a concrete block so that our vehicle turned vertical

i looked around - a mechanic-driver ran away, nobody was around

only me and those two casualties

one was almost dead, another was asking water all the time

"drink!, drink!" the second said "i am dying"

ua : what was happening around you at that time?

everything was burning?

ru : the equipment that was hit was burning down, there was shooting on the streets

it was dangerous even to come outside.

i sat with casualties for about an hour - didn't know what to do

i saw that one of casualties was in a very bad state - he was losing a lot of blood

he kept repeating: "what do we need it for? why have we come here? i have told him..."

ua : whom has he told?

ru : a commander probably.

they are grown-up people,35-37 years old

ua : i talked yesterday with some of that type. grown-up

but immature. all russian soldiers think that nothing depends on them, they are unable to influence anything. and it seems, there is no such thing as an "unlawful order"

ua : for instance, in ukrainian army every soldier is a thinking soldier. in your army people think they are small parts of a mechanism, which moves an unkown direction

ru : we are drilled that an order must be executed first, and only afterwards can be discussed

ua : it is true, but it is not all

ru : and here everything is different

ru : so i sat with them for about an hour; their condition was very bad, and i didn't know what to do

how to evacuate without communication

i climbed out of the vehicle - it was night. where to go? what to do?

i walked around for about 40 minutes - there was nobody

came back to the vehicle - opened it, looked - from 300 they turned into 200

i felt very bad

i thought - whatever happens

and i went to a first nearby garage

i fell in the garage, there was artillery still working

i thought: "if it is my fate to die from our friendly fire - be it"

i blacked out; then i was woken by ukrainian militaries

i told them that i was inhured and did not have a weapon

they brought me here

here i learnt that everyone who was there with me - they all died

i am the only one survived from the company

ua : what do you think about a psychological state of your president?

ua : if you want you may chose not to answer

ua : do you think he is adequate?

ru : i think not.

ru : i still cannot explain to myself

if we look at his plan to take over ukraine

what did he want to achieve here? to install his power here?

ua : it is a sign of inadequacy

nobody from your people can explain what was the goal

ok, let's even imagine that you came from seven directions and managed to take the main cities

the entire population is against you - how do you plan to keep them?

ru : this is what i was taking about, i didn't understand -

even if he managed to bring troops in kyiv, to replace the authorities in here

how would locais react to that?

ua : not only in kyiv. in all ukraine

ru : people have demonstrated here that they have the power, not the authorities

ua : your " specical operation" has brought so much injustice

ua : that even those who were loyal to russia today are willing to shoot in russians

ru : our people are so intimidated

ru : our people were on purpose forced into debt

ru : i myself could not allow to have or buy anything

ru : i was spending all my money on food

ua : ok, whay would you like to say to militaries in russia who are about to be deployed here?

ru : i want russian military and all russian population to come to senses and to realize that you are being disinformed

and not only regarding the current events, but starting from annexation of crimea -

all that propaganda about some nazis here, banderovtsy - there are no such people here

here live normal, slavic people, who all apeak russian language, friendly people

and you come here and kill, and civilians suffer every day

innocent people are dying

i want to ask you - do not come here. if you can find a way, do not listen your commander, do not come here

ua : ok, you probably prepared this speech for a press-conference, or someone might helped you with it

but do you, as a person, feel remorse, your personal guilt, for what is happening here?

ru : i am very ashamed. our government did this.

ua : no, not the goverment.

your own guilt - do you start realizing it?

ru : of course.

ua : what would you have done, had you known what would happen? when you were boarding the helicopter?

ru : i would plea the pilot very much to turn around and not to fly here

ua : the pilots would not listen to you. would you still fly?

ru : i think, they might have listened.

ua : ok, you can add something if you want to

ru : to add... i feel very ashamed

i felt so much shame here, when i was taken on the streets of the city

heaps of corpses of dead bodies

ukrainians say "what have you done? we are the same people as you are"

ru : all people apeak russian language...

ua : not all people speak russian language! those who want speak russian, those wh want speak ukrainian

it was never a problem here. you mass-media made artificially a problem out of it

ru : and here in captivity i learnt who ukrainian nationallsts are

ua : and who are they?

ru : they are usual citzens who like their country.
