<A major theme associated with 3 significant moments in the story - Prejudice>

Throughout the entire chapters described in progress, there are several themes considered highly significant and are coming into discuss heavily about the sense of life’s cruelty based on the defect, characteristic, feature, and circumstance of people, especially of social minority in a common society. End of Innocence, Cowardice, Injustice, Racism… Each of major idea stressed out in depth is all exceedingly great idea regarding its specific value of the direct approach to controversial issues in reality. However, one particular theme, ‘Prejudice’ is setting further steps linking up multiple derivational themes within it, being the chief theme representing the rest of the highlighted themes. In other words, such highlighted themes are widely derived from the idea of prejudice; End of Innocence, Cowardice, Injustice, Racism.

- The prejudice derived accordingly from suspicions on one’s rumour spreading abroad.
In the very beginning of the story, Arthur Radley, who is generally introduced as one of the protagonists of the episodes taking its appearance with an exceedingly deep influence, has constantly been in the centre of the popular gossips by the people of Maycomb County. There are tons of lots of suspicious rumours hanging around him involving his abnormal behaviours and occasional spying exposed to some of the nearby neighbourhoods, further the humble deion of his bodily figure following the fantasy imagined particularly by Jem and Dill, through an unconfirmed presumption of it as ‘The Grey Ghost’ of the town, “Jem gave a reasonable deion of Boo: Boo was about six-and-a half feet tall… There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time.” (Lee 16). As widely confirmed in such occasions, the prejudice of the children directly towards Arthur, especially from Jem and Dill followed by Scout, is demonstratively indicated to emphasise the essential ideas of negative preconception based on people’s environmental circumstance. In fact, it would be later proved incorrectly assumed, also would be turned out to be just a randomly passing rumour referring to a fictional image of Arthur, is actually a standard adult like others in Macomb and sure responsible enough to protect the children carefully from an ultimate danger, considering their safety as the priority through a helpful dedication in which they are thrown into a miserable situation as to be threatened by Bob Ewell. After all the occurrences, Scout would now be able to look through the sight of Boo Radley, meaning she has become way more flexible for dealing with the world from various perspectives.

- The prejudice toward the majority of a society in vice versa, in spite of its social position.
By the middle of the chapters, there is an embarrassing situational irony newly emerging of what a group of the social majority, Scout and Jem as two Caucasians is prejudiced by the social minority or an African-American community composed of the people of inferiority in which Ms. Calpurina brings the children to the church. In detail, Jem and Scout are not entirely welcomed particularly by a tall African-American woman called Lula, early established a deep association with Calpurina. By and by, Lula straightly comes into express her hostility, or a sense of natural ‘prejudice’ the people of black communities might have definitely thought against of for a significant period of time, within their minds as well, “I wants to know why you bringin’ white chillun to niggar church.” (Lee 159). Although the children stay absolutely innocent during the church service, neither showing any suspicious attempt for a harassment on somebody in church perceiving their social position, nor causing any sort of distraction regarded highly interruptive, nobody in the church never feel comfortable for the presence of Jem and Scout in a friendly atmosphere. However, they all still remain at a respectful atmosphere tending to treat the children equally, in spite of their constant endurance derived from cruel treatments of the large numbers of Caucasian, but they must have at least a little bit of prejudice at the same time, not as directly represented as it is reflected on Lula’s attitude. The only possible reason for the remaining of the African-American people in church treating the children relatively equal, is probably because of their father, Atticus’ thoughtful decision to protect Tom Robinson, advocating in behalf of him in the upcoming judgement. Otherwise, with regardless of Atticus’s supportive action on one of the members of a black community, perhaps, many of the remaining people in the church could have not performed such a soft and nice treatment.

- The prejudice early established and been maintained for a significantly long period of time.
One day in the school, Scout is heard and soon gets in an argument with Cecil Jacobs about Atticus been consistently performing services for American-African people, wrongly involved in certain crimes in most cases. Tom Robinson is the particular one accused of sexual crimes involving violent bruise and rape in this case. Also, Atticus, a responsible, profoundly devoted lawyer for the equality of African-American, is officially committed to protect Tom Robinson, standing beside of him in the upcoming judgements. Unfortunately, it would later become a brutal failure as eventually resulted in the final verdict, indicating Tom Robinson is judged found guilty, despite Atticus’ utmost efforts in order to prove the innocence of Robinson, through enthusiastic speeches involving an elaboration in properly arranging factual confirmation of the case, and the prejudice of the Caucasian society against the social minority of people, African-American, as facing unconscious discrimination occurred in most regular realistic situations. By the way, considering all these occasions, Scout returns back home as to inquire of the necessity of concerning and covering the people living among inferiority. In response, Atticus soon comes into become literally a responsive mentor, providing her a cross section of how the real society established in terms of the equality and fairness of human with reasonable explanations in a way of the enlightenment, leading her to the appropriate approach to the true morality, not to or not to be ‘prejudiced’ against people, based on one’s defect, characteristic, feature, and circumstance as mentioned repeatedly, “Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try to win. This time we aren’t fighting the Yankees, we’re fighting our friends…” (Lee 101)
