The Taejong-Sillok (태종실록, Annals of King Taejong) recorded that

태종실록에 적힌 바에 따르면

"60 people were living on Yusan-guk-do (우산국 流山國, Yusan-state-island). According to a 1417 government report, there were 86 yusando inhabitants as of 1412. Yusan-guk's diameter was 2 shik (24 km), and its circumference is 8 shik (96 km)."

"60명 정도가 우산국/도에 살고 있었다. 1417년 정부 보고에 따르면, 대략 86명의 거주민이 1412년에 거주하고 있었으며, 우산국의 지름은 24km, 반경은 96km정도 되었습니다.

The 1417 report is as follows: An expedition was launched under Inspector Kim Inu, and from Usando, the expedition brought back local products as tribute, including bamboo, seal skins, raw ramie cloth, silk wool, and ginger.

1417년 보고의 내용은 다음과 같다 : 김인우가 주도한 탐사대가 우산도에 당도하였고, 그곳에서 탐사대는 대나무, 바다사자(강치) 가죽, 모시로 만든 천과 비단, 그리고 생강을 가져왔다.

Kim brought back three Usando natives. Kim reported that there were fifteen households living on the island, summing to the figure of eighty-six inhabitants. On their way back from the island, Kim Inu's expedition went through two typhoons, barely reaching the mainland alive.

김인우는 우산도 주민 3명을 데려왔으며, 86명의 15가구가 그 섬에 살고있다고 하였다. 돌아오는 길에 김인우의 일행은 두 번의 태풍을 만났으며, 거의 죽을 뻔했다고 한다.

The Korean government says that Usando was the Liancourt Rocks. Although it is impossible for one to survive at Liancourt Rocks without outside assistance, a distinction to be noted is that Usanguk refers to a state based on Ulleng-do, whereas Usando refers to an island. Japanese scholars argue that Usando refers to either Ulleung-do or Jukdo while Korean scholars argue that it refers to Liancourt Rocks.

한국측에서는 우산도가 독도라고 주장한다. 사람이 독도에서 생존하는 것은 외부지원 없이는 불가능에 가깝지만, 주목해야 할 점은 우산국은 울릉도를 기준으로 한 지역을 가리키는 말로 보인다는 것이다, 우산도는 어떤 섬을 가리키는 형식으로 서술되기 때문이다. 일본 학자들은 이 우산도를 울릉도나 옆에 있는 죽도로 보고 있으나, 한국 학자들은 독도로 보고 있다고 한다.

The Sejong-Sillok (세종실록, "Chronicle of King Sejong", 1432) mentions Usando, but interpretation of the context is disputed.

세종실록에서도 우산도가 언급되지만, 내용에 대한 해석은 논쟁이 있다.

The text is interpreted as follows: "Usando (우산도 于山島) and Mureungdo (무릉도 武陵島, a former name of Ulleungdo), in the sea due east of Uljin Prefecture, are mutually close to enough to each other and visible in a clear weather at the top of the mountain".

글에 대한 해석은 다음과 같다. "우산도와 무릉도는 울진현의 동쪽에 있는데, 두 섬은 서로 가까우며 맑은 날이면 산꼭대기에서 서로를 바라볼 수 있다.

South Korea insists that this constitutes clear evidence that Usan-do refers to the Liancourt Rocks, the only island that is visible from Ulleungdo only in clear weather.

한국은 이 글이 우산도가 독도라는 증거가 될 수 있다고 한다. 울릉도에서 맑은 날에 보이는 섬은 독도밖에 없다는 것이다.

Japan, however, holds that the latter part as "come into view from mainland Korea", believing that it refers instead to Jukdo, located two kilometers east of Ulleungdo.

다만, 일본은 이 마지막 내용이 "본토에서 보인다"라는 해석이고, 해당 문장에서 설명하는 섬이 2km 동쪽의 죽도라고 주장한다.

South Korea counters that Jukdo is only 2 kilometers apart from Ulleung-Do and therefore is visible regardless of altitude or weather, as well as that the passage is clearly written in the context of the two islands mutually, rather than in relation to the Korean mainland, as established in "相去不遠(These two mutual islands are not far from each other)," "相" meaning "mutually".

한국 측에서는 죽도는 2km정도밖에 떨어져 있지 않기에 날씨와 상관없이 바라볼 수 있고, 이 문장은 "相去不遠(이 섬들은 서로 멀리 있지 않다),"의 "相"가 "서로"를 의미하기 때문에, 해당 내용은 두 다른 섬을 지칭하고 있다며 반박한다.

But it is a rather questionable counter as the text can be interpreted in two seperate lines as "二島相去不遠(Two islands are mutually not far away)" and "風日淸明 則可望見。(When the weather is clear, you can watch them.)"

그렇지만 이는 "二島相去不遠(두 섬이 멀리 떨어져 있지 않다)" 와 "風日淸明 則可望見。(날씨가 청명하면 가히 바라볼 수 있다)"가 두 줄로 나뉘어 해석이 가능하기 때문에 의심스럽다.

더 자세한 것은 외국 위키를 보면 알겠지만, 외국도 한국의 17세기 이전 우산도 주장은 믿기 어렵다고 보는 것 같다.
